The purpose of the Iroquois County Early Intervention Program is to furnish each child with a variety of opportunities that will encourage development and growth as early in life as possible.  We are committed to value the unique potential of each child.  Our program is both a caring and supportive one that provides a variety of services to any child in Iroquois County from birth to three with any type of developmental delay.

For a child to be eligible for the Iroquois County Early Intervention Program one of the following criteria must be met:

1.       A specific medical condition resulting in a high probability of developmental delay.  These medical conditions must be diagnosed by a physician.

2.       A significant (30% or more) delay in one area of development as determined by a formal evaluation.

3.       An informed clinical opinion either by one (1) doctor, or by therapist from two (2) different disciplines (Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, and/or Developmental Therapist)

4.       “At Risk” of having a substantial developmental delay due to:

a.       Child’s parent is diagnosed with Developmental Disability

b.       Child’s parent is diagnosed with severe emotional disturbance

c.       Child has three of four risk factors:

                                                         i.        Mother currently abuses alcohol or other substance

ii.        Mother is currently under 15

iii.        Child and family are homeless

iv.        Child is diagnosed with relationship or attachment disorder

Developmental Therapy is provided during home visits.  Children from birth to eighteen months receive home visits ranging from one to four times per month, for 30 to 60 minutes each.  Home visits provide activities encouraging speech, fine and gross motor development, directed and free play, music, plus personal care skills.
